Coming up with a girl’s party that everyone enjoys is no easy task. Deciding on the right party games for girls is the main component to their triumph.

Selecting which party games to have fun with is dependant on a number of factors:

- whether boys are attending

- how big the group is

- whether there is a theme

- whether the attendees want to play any games in particular

Are boys coming?
When making the decision of whether boys are invited, it might be worth bearing in mind that girls are sometimes withdrawn when boys are present.

In addition, as girls usually grow up quicker than boys, they may have a preference for games which are calmer and less physically gruelling! Of course, this depends on which girls are attending, because many of them still prefer activity games to having a tea party, and whether the birthday girl, if it’s a birthday party, wants boys to come!

A recommendation would be to ask the birthday girl, if it’s a birthday party, what sorts of party games for girls she would like to play and whether any of her friends have any ideas about what games they would like to be included at the party. That will certainly give you a head start.

How many people are coming?
Smaller groups are likely to already know each other, but for bigger groups it may be a good idea to include a few icebreaker party games at the start to calm everyone down and allow them to get to know each other. Indoor party games are better suited for smaller groups, whereas outdoor party games are better for larger groups. Treasure hunt can be played both inside and outside. Is there a theme?
Where there is a theme to the party, it will help determine what sorts of games can be enjoyed. There may be some additional games that spring to mind for a particular theme, e.g. ‘find the ticking clock’ for a pirate theme or ‘find the madhatter’ for a tea party theme. However, irrespective of the theme, it’s a good plan to involve the attendees in making the decisions for what games they want to be played and then challenging them to figure out how the rules of the game can be changed to suit the theme.

At the end of the day, the success of the party games will depend on whether the children interact with each other and have fun. Involving the children in choosing the games will ensure that anyone who’s not enjoying herself has an opportunity to suggest a game they would like to play.

Final thoughts

A great idea to ensure the party runs to plan is to organize the games before the party. Some of the best games have been where the attendees were notified of the theme a few days before the party, and been asked to bring food suitable to the theme, wear fancydress or create a character that they will act as during the course of the party. This ensures everyone’s involved and looking forward to the party even before it arrives!

All the players, with the exception of two, leave the room. One of the outside party is then called in, and told that a new club has been formed and his name enrolled, but that he cannot be formally admitted unless he can guess the name of the club from the movements of the two members who have remained in the room.

The candidate for admission is then offered i chair, and everything said and every movement made is mimicked by the other two.

Sometimes the new member guesses at once, but when unable to do this it is very funny to watch the effect tht the copying of his every movement has upon him, especially when six or seven have been admitted.

When the name of the club has been guessed another candidate is invited in and the same performance takes place.
